Headless Frank...

advisor to the lovelorn, weary, confused, and the overly self-involved

Dear Headless Frank:

Somebody told me that the safety mechanism on a commercially available semi-automatic assault weapon is called a "catch 22." Is that correct? I only ask because I thought you said there are no stupid questions.
—Glad to be Out of School

Dear Glad—
This may be the “catch 22” you are referring to:

frank in lights

People who want semi-automatic assault weapons and unlimited ammunition to protect themselves are crazy.

Crazy people shouldn’t be allowed to have semi-automatic assault weapons and unlimited ammunition.

People who aren’t crazy don’t want semi-automatic assault weapons and unlimited ammunition.

That’s a catch 22. But I don’t think it’s a safety at this point.

And there is one stupid question: "Shouldn’t all Americans have the right to carry semi-automatic assault weapons anywhere, any time?"

Merry Christmas, though.

Signing off: Medulla oblongata.
