X-tending the Celebration

two sheep

This is the week to eat, drink and be merry in the first half and then turn back to getting our priorities straight on Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is as much a reminder as Lent is of how our excesses can get out of order. Simply put, the latter is a time to turn back to placing God at the center of our lives and trying to put aside bad habits that separate us from the fundamental pursuit of living for God and others. Hopefully, the change will become a habit we don’t have to break next year.

PRAYER: All-loving God, thank you for the things in life that enhance the joy of being human. But help me to not misuse them. Instead, turn my focus to prayer with you and being attentive to the needs of other people, knowing those are habits that lead to lasting happiness.
